Robert Gardner
Dr. Robert Gardner is a telecommunications engineer with over 20 years’ experience working and innovating in the data communications field. He has produced publications spanning the fields of alarm correlation, avionics, active measurements, and railway communications. In Great Britain, he was instrumental in the railway’s move to modern IP technology that supports operational systems such as signalling, electrification and mission-critical voice. More recently, he has brought new-age satellite connectivity into the railway corridor to support critical infrastructure monitoring, remote voice communications, and Future Railway Mobile Communications System (FRMCS) services including passenger Wi-Fi, in-cab signalling and train control. Robert Gardner is now an Associate Director with the Government-owed Scottish Futures Trust in Edinburgh, and works to enhance digital connectivity for all citizens of Scotland. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering and a PhD from the University of Strathclyde.
