Michelle Carter
Michelle is Interim Head of Transport at the Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN), the UK’s innovation network. Michelle oversees KTN’s Transport & Mobility activities including rail, maritime, CAV, Low/Ultra Low Emission Vehicles, aviation, Mobility as a Service plus the systems and services associated to delivering them.
Working with Innovate UK and other government departments, KTN’s Transport Team support the national agenda to decarbonise transport and create more efficiencies in the way we move people and goods. The team help innovative businesses access R&D funding and find expertise, services or technology to help them innovate and grow whilst developing and implementing transformative mobility solutions.
Michelle is Programme Manager for the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Special Interest Group (SAF SIG), the UKs first Public-Private programme dedicated to SAF. Sponsored by Innovate UK, Department for Transport and Sustainable Aviation, the aim is to help build the UK supply chain.
Michelle has a BSc, MRes and PhD in Marine Biology and joined KTN in 2011 working in the Industrial Biotechnology team. Michelle joined the transport team at KTN in 2016 as Knowledge Transfer Manager: Aerospace and Aviation, and became Interim Head of Transport In September 2018. Michelle sits on Sustainable Aviation’s Fuels Working Group, MaaS Scotland Steering Group and EPSRC Low Carbon Jet Fuel project advisory board.
