Matthew has worked in the training and education sector for over 15 years. His career started as a trainer assessor at Ystrad Mynach College delivering management, customer service and leisure qualifications. He then spent a number of years in the private sector as a regional quality manager, managing a team of assessors and support staff to deliver apprenticeship and commercial training in a variety of businesses across Wales.

He returned to the world of FE in 2009 as Work Based Learning (WBL) Operations Manager across South East Wales. Having spent time in the private sector, he was able to implement new processes and support the college to meet the demands of commercialisation whilst maintaining quality and supporting the organisation and the employers we serve/.

Within two years he progressed to the Head of WBL and led this aspect of work when the former Ystrad Mynach College and Coleg Morgannwg merged in 2013, taking responsibility for two established WBL providers and working with some of the leading employers in Wales.

In 2016 he was appointed Director of Business Services at Coleg y Cymoedd where his responsibilities grew to include managing the Business and International Department, the WBL Department and other ESF supported and funded projects.

In April 2018 Matthew with promoted to Assistant Principal of Business Services and is now part of the Colleges Strategic Management Team.

He is passionate about training and education, and in particular supporting employers to develop their workforce, ensuring that they have highly skilled and highly qualified employees that are able to have a positive impact on the organisation and importantly the economy in Wales. Matthew’s private and public sector experience helps him understand both the needs of industry and the support available to meet those needs.
