Krista Sexton

Krista Sexton is Head of Operational Risk for Network Rail’s Wales & Borders route, a role she has held since 2020 and in which she leads the management of operational risk, safety and compliance across the railway.

Her responsibilities include managing risk at over 1,000 level crossings across the route, supported by a team of 30 level crossing and risk professionals who work tirelessly to keep local community users, passengers and rail colleagues safe.

Following a successful career in manufacturing and aviation, Krista joined Network Rail bringing extensive experience in engineering governance, programme delivery and operational performance. She previously held senior roles at British Airways, leading complex engineering programmes and major change initiatives.

Krista works closely with regulators, train operators and external partners to drive improvements in safety performance and strengthen collaboration across the railway system. She plays a key role in shaping the route’s risk profile and supporting effective decision-making through robust governance and assurance.

Most recently, Krista has focused on embedding a proactive, data-led approach to operational risk management, supporting continuous improvement across Wales & Borders.
