David McCallum
David is Transport for Wales, Rail Development Lead and the programme manager for the South Wales Mainline and other strategic rail programmes in Wales. His role involves guiding the development of our future rail programme. David works with a wide variety stakeholders to develop new rail infrastructure and services to make it easier to travel by train as part of a wider integrated transport plan to make public transport and active modes peoples first choice and support greener travel choices.
David joined TfW in 2021, with a background in transportation in consultancy and the public sector, he has over 25 years’ experience in leading the planning, appraisal, design development and implementation of rail and public transport schemes. Previous projects include leading the Ebbw valley railway passenger re-opening in 2008, development of Cardiff Metro proposals, station re-openings in Wales, and the business case and design development for the recently opened Brent Cross West Station project on the Midland Mainline in North London.
David is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Logistics and Transportation and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation. He is a graduate of University of Hull and Postgraduate of Newcastle University and started his career in South-East Wales in 1994.
