Fleet Support Engineer - Porterbrook

I am a Fleet Support Engineer at Porterbrook, currently working with EMU fleets at Northern. I provide support to the operator on a day-to-day basis, and work on modification implementation and projects. I am very privileged to work as part of the Class 323 DVRS Project – fitting a new, cutting-edge sanding system, designed to help reduce low adhesion issues experienced across the industry. Working on this project, has enabled me to acquire knowledge and skills regarding technical elements of sanding, low adhesion, and the wider rail industry, and improving my project work and skills and gaining confidence in managing multiple stakeholders.

I started my career in rail when I was given the opportunity to work as a university placement student at Porterbrook, then returning to Porterbrook as a Graduate Engineer on completion of my degree. During my graduate scheme, I was given the exciting opportunities to work in different internal and external placements, to broaden my industry and business knowledge, skills, and experience. Prior to Covid, I partook in placements at Go-Ahead and GTR, learning about the commercial and operational aspects of rail. After Covid, I had a placement at WMT Soho Depot further understanding EMU fleets, maintenance, modifications, and technical support.

I am very passionate about the rail industry, also volunteering as the YRP East Midlands Committee Chair and as a Fireman on the Talyllyn Railway. I would love to help make a difference and improve the industry image and reputation to incoming generations to showcase the many amazing people and opportunities that this historical industry has to offer
