Alan Ross
As the Director Engineering and Asset Management for Scotland’s Railway, Alan has accountability for the safe, reliable and effective operation of the mainline rail infrastructure assets including the short, medium and long-term maintenance and asset capital investment programmes. He also leads on the strategic agenda for engineering and sustainability programmes for Scotland’s Railway including stakeholder engagement with Scottish Government and other regional agencies, other engineering related stakeholders including academia, SMEs and industry.
He is a chartered electronic engineer holding a 1st class honours degree in Electronic engineering with a career in the rail sector spanning over 40 years. During this time Alan has held senior leadership roles across various railway infrastructure sectors including; maintenance strategy and delivery, capital programme delivery, innovation and international benchmarking for signalling and telecommunications, client engineering and asset management at regional and national level.
Before taking up this role, Alan was previously the Director Sponsorship and Business Development where was accountable for the efficient and effective delivery of the circa £2bn capital investment programme for Scotland’s Railway and before that Network Rails, Director of Safety and Asset management in London and the South East.
