Alison Thompson

Alison is Infrastructure Management Director for the Core Valleys Lines at Amey, where she leads the safe operation, maintenance and a key part of the  transformation of the UK’s most ambitious rail modernisation programmes. A Chartered Civil Engineer with extensive cross-discipline expertise, she has been instrumental in the delivering the £2bn South Wales network transformation, which pioneers the use of Smart Electrification – achieving exceptional, industry-leading performance levels, while leading a team contributing to the CVL network ranked one of the best performing rail group in the UK. Widely respected for her collaborative leadership and technical credibility, Alison is also a passionate advocate for developing talent and championing women in rail, recognised with the Women in Rail Lifetime Achievement Award in 2025 and Highly Commended at the Rail Staff Awards.
