Simon Jones

A Chartered Engineer, Simon has delivered complex national infrastructure projects in Wales and overseas.

Simon is the Chief Executive of the Global Centre of Rail Excellence, the UK’s first purpose built rail test and research facility that aims to accelerate innovation, improve reliability and drive efficiency for the entire rail industry.

Until recently Simon was Director for Economic Infrastructure at the Welsh Government, responsible for Transport, Digital Infrastructure, Property and Commercial Solutions for Business support. Previously with Atkins, where he led large multi-disciplinary teams and successfully managed business units.

Simon has the broad track record and reputation to deliver this role, as well as the recent experience of doing so successfully. He has built a team, worked with Ministers and understands the wider strategic objectives.
